Tech: SEPTEMBER 16 – 24, 2020
Opening: SEPTEMBER 25, 2020

Location of Auditions: 140 W. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL

Audition materials will be provided once an audition slot is scheduled.

Youth Auditions are only for kids 15 and under. Anyone 16 and over should submit for the adult auditions (EPA rules apply).

Character Descriptions: All characters use some form of British accent.

MATILDA WORMWOOD: (8-14) A fiercely clever child, living in an abusive household she escapes into books and her imagination. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Likable and Charismatic not annoying or pretentious. Honest and unassuming but with a prankster streak and strong sense of justice. Extremely bright, fearless and focused, and able to speak assertively. She has a strong moral compass with a smart, analytical mind.
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A3
Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
PLEASE NOTE: Must be a strong singer and confident speaker; must sing and move. Must be small in stature, should be able to pass for 6-9 years old.

BRUCE: (8-13) Matilda’s classmate. He is subject to punishment by Miss Trunchbull. Bruce is a genuine, kind boy with a fondness for sweets; his spirit is broken by the Trunchbull but he bounces back stronger than ever. Must be a very strong actor and singer with monologues, scenes, and solos. Strong dance skills preferred. All body types will be considered.

MICHAEL WORMWOOD: (10-18) Matilda’s older brother; a man of few words and even less thoughts. Needs good deadpan comedy and the ability to find a character during a lot of stage time with few words, as well as excellent movement skills. May also be cast with additional ensemble roles and in the Big Kid features. No featured singing but should have strong vocal skills.

TOMMY, ERIC AND NIGEL: (8-13) Matilda’s boy classmates. Each has important lines and solos, and some have featured dance moments as well. Strong singer/actors who move well.

LAVENDER: (8-13) Matilda’s classmate and best friend. Lavender is squeaky and super-adorable, and what she lacks in intelligence she makes up for in enthusiasm and friendliness. Must be a very strong actor and singer with monologues, featured scenes, and solos throughout. Strong dance skills preferred.

AMANDA, ALICE AND HORTENSIA: (8-13) Matilda’s girl classmates. Each has important lines and solos, and some have featured dance moments as well. Strong singers/ actresses who move well.

BIG KIDS/ENSEMBLE DANCERS: (13-18) Featured dancers/singers in several choreography-heavy numbers. Must also have strong acting skills.
