NO HOLDS BARD: Shakespeare with Swords!

SAGE Studio is proud to present, NO HOLDS BARD, a class devoted to teaching the basics of Shakespearean language through the fundamentals of hand-to-hand & swordplay stage combat. Incorporating vocal & physical exercises to unlock Shakepeare’s text, students will learn how to suit the “Action to the word, the word to the Action” while safely engaging in stage combat choreography. Students will learn basic falls, tumbles, punches, and grabs as well as how to safely and effectively thrust, parry, and slash with stage worthy swords!
July 14-31 | Mon- Fri | 1pm-4pm
Ages 14-18
Tuition: $100 (a $350 value!)
Pre-requisites: Students must be willing and able to participate in a physical training regimen and demonstrate a level of maturity necessary to maintain the safety of the classroom and its students. Students must also provide a pair of light, protective gloves for their hands (avail at most hardware stores).

James Knight (Instructor): An accomplished actor with a career firmly grounded in the classics, James has performed in countless Shakespearean productions in theaters and festivals around the country including: The Old Globe,The Utah Shakespearean Festival, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, New York Classical Theater and Theatre for a New Audience. James was a teaching artist with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival for 4 years where he also helmed the acting program in their “Shakespeare Summer Camp”. He most recently choreographed “Romeo & Juliet” for the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City. BA Western Michigan University, MFA University of Missouri-Kansas City
Michele Vazquez (Instructor): Michele holds an MFA from The Old Globe Theatre’s classical training program. She has trained at both the British American Dramatic Academy in Oxford and the Royal National Theatre in London. Michele has performed Shakespeare both nationally and internationally at festivals such as The International Shakespeare Festival (Neuss, Germany), The Orlando Shakespeare Festival, and The Old Globe. Michele served as teaching artist and director with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival’s education program and the HVSF Summer Teacher’s Institute and Aquila Theater’s Shakespeare Leaders program in Harlem.
